Best Photographer: Devin Allen

Young west-side photographer Devin Allen blew up overnight. Someone who started on Instagram ended up as only the third amateur photographer to get their work on the cover of Time magazine. His cover, of a man with a bandana over his face being chased by police, recalled the riots of 1968. The young photographer continues to shoot for Time and had his first solo show at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in the late summer. Allen’s sharp eye and knowing captions made his work during the uprising more personal than any other photos coming out of the city after the death of Freddie Gray. Allen continues to shoot his west-side home and works with the children of the neighborhood, grooming them to become the next generation of photographers.
