The bartenders at the dark/cozy/French Le Garage Beer Bar & Frites know their way around a dropper for their more-precise cocktails, yet their self-bottled Family Mule is all consistent recipe and nectarous. Made daily, Le Garage’s riff on the Moscow Mule consists of Polish rye vodka, house-made ginger beer, and lime and grapefruit juice, bottled in glass bottles the shape of, but a bit smaller than, a Mexican Coke and capped with a hand-cranked machine right there at the end of the bar. Served over artisanal crushed ice in a glass (not a copper mug, amateur), the Family Mule is tart but barely sweet from the citrus and spicy with a bite from the house ginger beer. It’s zesty and much too easy going down.
