Best Michael Jackson: The Michael Jackson Guy

Late R&B legend Michael Jackson was present during the uprising in more ways than one. For one, his 1995 protest track ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ was turned into a chant during the protests following Freddie Gray’s death at the hands of the Baltimore Police. “All I’m really saying,” protesters chanted, “is they don’t really care about us.” Jackson was also present by way of infamous local MJ “tribute artist” Dimitri Reeves of West Baltimore who you’ve probably seen over the years dancing off Greenmount or at Lexington Market and other places. But on the evening of Monday April 27, near North and Penn where CVS burned and cops occupied the block, Reeves aggressively danced to ‘Beat It,’ entertaining locals and affronting the police with a peculiar kind of beyond-words protest.
