Best Irony: Breathe Bookstore Cafe Replaced by Dangerously Delicious Pies

810 W. 36th St., (410) 522-7437, dangerouspiesbalt.com

For the past decade, Breathe Bookstore Cafe was one of the best-kept secrets in Hampden. It had arguably the best cold-brew coffee in the city and sold great, healthy vegan food—a rarity in greasy, carb-loving Hampden. Mostly, it was a great place for writers to enjoy free WiFi and outdoor seating behind ample foliage. Owner Susan Weis-Bohlen decided to shutter the location over the winter to focus on teaching Ayurvedic and vegetarian cooking classes from home. Now, the storefront is home to another outpost of local chain Dangerously Delicious Pies. Say goodbye to gluten-free raw kale salads and hello to refined sugar, starch, buttery crust, and pies with meat filling. Hampden’s arteries are about to get a little more clogged. No word yet on the status of the neighborhood’s chakras.
