Best Eye in the Sky: FBI During the uprising

About a week after the Baltimore Uprising settled and the curfew ended, the FBI copped to providing three surveillance aircraft to fly over Baltimore, supposedly to look out for violence only. According to spokesperson Amy Thoreson they weren’t spying on protesters or anything. “The FBI aircraft were not there to monitor lawfully protected First Amendment activity,” she told Ian Duncan of The Baltimore Sun, though she would not say the specific kinds of aircraft used or who operated them. None of this is really a surprise—anyone over at North and Penn during the first week of protests spotted drones flying around and it’s since been revealed the Black Lives Matters protests were frequently surveyed and infiltrated over the past year or so—but hey, high-tech FBI aircraft flying over the city spying is certainly the most impressive and horrifying form of creepy Orwellian surveillance.
