Best Escape From The City, in the City: Cylburn Arboretum

4915 Greenspring Ave., (410) 367-2217, cylburn.org

Many people may not realize it, but Baltimore has its own 207-acre park nestled into the hills between the Woodberry and Coldspring neighborhoods that’s the perfect respite from city living. Cylburn Arboretum is home to 150 acres of woods—most of which can be explored on its 3.5 miles of trails—23 gardens littered throughout the grounds, and a badass 147-year-old mansion (designed by the same architect who designed City Hall) that looks like something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie. On a recent visit we enjoyed tons of fragrant flowers, butterflies on their search for nectar, blooming cacti, and a stare-off with a gorgeous white-tailed deer. Grab some food to go from nearby Artifact Coffee and make it a picnic as you lounge about the expansive green lawns and forget that you’re within the city limits.
