The sazerac is a famous New Orleans cocktail that is best consumed in a historic, grand building like the Beaux-Arts former headquarters of the Baltimore & Ohio Railway, where the B&O American Brasserie and the Hotel Monaco are now located. The main ingredient in the B&O’s sazerac is rye whiskey (rather than the more traditional cognac), and the cocktail also includes a hint of absinthe, for aroma and flavor, bitters, sugar, and a lemon peel. The sazerac is not on the esteemed list of fine signature cocktails the head of the Baltimore Bartender’s Guild and B&O mixologist Brendan Dorr offers, but he still makes this simple, classic cocktail better than anyone else in town.
