Best Baltimore Sun Move Besides Buying City Paper

City Paper

The Baltimore Sun Media Group has had a busy year. Not only did it buy City Paper, which was the smartest move it could have made, but it also swept up several other less-exciting papers, re-animating the old-time Baltimore appellation of the Sunpapers. But, there were some scary moments in its newsroom, as when Scott Calvert, an investigative reporter, left the paper to go to the Wall Street Journal. Would this hurt Sun Investigates, The Sun’s investigative arm? Well, sure, we miss Calvert, but we were psyched to see Doug Donovan return to do investigative work alongside new hire Mark Puente, actually increasing the number of investigative reporters on staff after Calvert’s departure. But, more to the point, all of the beat reporters have really been kicking some serious ass—Ian Duncan on the Black Guerilla Family immediately springs to mind—for Sun Investigates. We hope to see more.
