It’s hard to find a scotch egg in Baltimore at all, but this Federal Hill brunch institution manages to serve not only the traditional variety but also a tasty vegetarian variation. What’s a scotch egg, you ask? Well, they take a perfectly cooked egg, wrap it in (veggie in this case) sausage, coat in a batter—here the batter is effectively a black-bean burger—then fry the whole shebang and serve it with a cream sauce on the side. It’s glorious—great junk food for the veggie set that doesn’t feel too much like a caloric commitment. Though we are probably kidding ourselves about that calorie part.
