Sauerkraut might not seem like the hippest choice of foodie gifts in the year 2014, but rest assured that one taste of HEX ferments garlic-oregano kraut and you’ll be sold. Husband-and-wife team Meaghan and Shane Carpenter make the crunchy fermented cabbage at their storefront in Belvedere Square and create a few different varieties to sample like juniper-caraway and sea kraut. Grab some pickles and kombucha, which they also make, to go with your kraut while you’re there. Also, be sure to take one of the fermenting classes if you like a more D.I.Y approach to your food.
