Official recognition for Baltimore’s best fish taco was nearly a tie between Riptide, Sweet 27, and Golden West. The problem with a majority of fish tacos is how they’re prepared: Most people will just slop their old lettuce and cheddar cheese all over it like it’s an “ordinary taco.” But the fish taco requires a delicate touch. Riptide’s Mahi Mahi is first doused in its batter and fried; Riptide adds jalapenos, also fried in batter, then tops off the fish taco with fresh guac, plus a pickled fennel slaw that gives it a nice bouquet. Tip: Eat it slowly at first, apply variation, then finish with voracity.
