Roman’s Place is a stalwart Baltimore bar and grill, in operation for over 75 years (28 years under current ownership), and aside from maybe air conditioning and new flat screens for watching the O’s, has been cheerfully resistant to trends and so-called improvements, which brings us to its bill of fare. One of a choice of three Club Sandwiches on its menu, for those of you keeping score at home, the “Regular Club” is, quite simply, the Platonic Ideal of a Club Sandwich, a Club Sandwich comprised of the essential elements required for a proper Club Sandwich: turkey (in this case roasted on premises), bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and little else, outside of condiments. It’s not too much, it’s not too little, it’s not on some stupid ciabatta focaccia pretzel panini roll, it’s a perfect Club Sandwich.
