Best Surprise Oriole

City Paper

OK, it’s not really a surprise that Darren O’Day is pitching well. But holy shit,a sub-1.00 ERA through the middle of August is fucking bonkers. Middle relievers rarely get all the credit, but O’Day has been crucial in the Orioles’ stellar 2014 campaign. He, Zach Britton, and Andrew Miller, acquired from the Boston Red Sox in a deadline trade, have been crucial in making up for the shortcomings of a starting rotation that doesn’t go deep into games. It’s often up to the submariner to hold a tight lead or keep the O’s in a close game, and he’s succeeded at both.
