If there’s one thing that can bring Baltimoreans of various stripes together, it seems, it’s strapping wheels on the bottom of a commode and flinging yourself down Chestnut Avenue. Such is the headlining spectacle of Hampdenfest, a previous Best of Baltimore winner for “Best Festival” that has the perfect mix of local artists, music, beer, falafel, and toilets. So we were super bummed in July when organizers announced that the September event would be canceled because of a conflict with the Sailabration/Star Spangled Banner Anniversary festivities downtown. But six days later, as we were starting to regret the whole American enterprise if it interfered with Hampdenfest, organizers announced that the festival was back, rescheduled for a week later, on Sept. 20. God Bless America.
