Nelson Cruz had a lot to prove this season. After serving a 50-game suspension in 2013 for the use of performance-enhancing drugs, the power hitter was pretty much written off by the entire league. The offseason saw Cruz waiting for a deal better than the $14.1 million offered by the Rangers and it never came. Cruz finally signed with the Orioles during spring training for a relatively meager $8 million (Prince Fielder is making $24 million this year). But a lot of fan excitement was tempered by the same talk: “He was only good because he was on PEDs, he won’t have the same power.” Luckily for O’s fans, Cruz has had the last laugh. As of the beginning of August, he’s launched 29 home runs with 75 RBIs, and is on pace to crush his previous bests of 33 and 90 respectively—CRUUUUUUUUZ!
