Everyman creative director Vincent Lancisi made a major commitment when he decided to produce the powerful drama “Tribes,” in which the main actor is a deaf man trying to function in a hearing world. Besides meeting the challenges of hiring interpreters and a director of artistic sign language and forming an accessibility committee, Lancisi and the production’s crew masterfully created a set, lighting, and sound rig that added layers of depth to the themes of communication, connection, and belonging, from the multiple surtitle screens and the projected visual art to the insightful use of sound and volume.
