2600 N. Howard St.,

We were sad to see Load of Fun close—it seemed like the gentrification thing was finally happening. Artists work to build up a space, city overlooks violations until it becomes valuable, and then they kick the artists out. But there was at least one good side effect: Single Carrot was encouraged in its decision to work with Seawall Development and move in to what was then an old tire shop. Now Parts & Labor, the new Spike Gjerde butcher shop, has moved in next door and Single Carrot has two separate theater spaces that allow it to produce more ambitious shows than ever. Last season, it was still growing into the new space—we can’t wait to see what this season brings.
