Best Jazz Performer

City Paper

When Warren Wolf celebrated “Wolfgang,” his second album for the nationally distributed jazz label Mack Avenue Records, with a record-release party at An Die Musik in January, the Baltimore vibraphonist brought along his mentor and frequent employer Christian McBride, a bona fide international jazz star. Wolf is well on his way to enjoying the same status, placing high in polls, playing festivals on several continents, and being invited to play with jazz stars alongside McBride. It’s no wonder, for Wolf’s mallet technique is as imaginative as it is muscular and as smart as it is fast.
