Alex Hacker

Yellow Sign Theatre, 1726 N. Charles St.

With This Bird's Flown: a Travest of Antiquity, Dionysus bartender Alex Hacker proved he'd been touched by the Greek god of drama. His voice emerged as a powerful mix of naturalism and poeticism, bringing together the themes and characters of Greek tragedy and the idioms of Tarantino, Mamet, and the new auteurs of long-form television drama. The play's few missteps had to do more with dramaturgy and casting than writing, and we hope to see Hacker-who also played the lead with surprising aplomb-back with new work next year.
