Hey horse-racing fans, you could just sit on your couch and watch NBC's Saturday broadcast of the Belmont Stakes, as American Pharoah attempts to sweep the Triple Crown, but what fun would it be to not have the betting, cigar smoke, and live racing available to you at the track?
Head to lovely Pimlico, site of American Pharoah's triumphant Preakness win in the slop (or Laurel Park, if you prefer), where the full day of racing at Belmont Park will be on TV through the magic of simulcast and, oh right, there are dozens of betting windows.
There will be a full slate of live racing at Old Hilltop, of course, and oh boy, you can gamble on that too.
And get this! The first 2,200 fans at Pimlico (and 1,800 fans at Laurel) will get a free American Pharoah T-shirt with paid admission.
Even if A.P. doesn't get it done on Saturday, attendees can win their own Triple Crown—the Triple Crown of booze. All three signature cocktails—the Debry's mint julep, the Preakness' Black-Eyed Susan, and the Belmont's Belmont Breeze—are available for your drinking pleasure. Belmont Breezes are $9 and come in a souvenir glass; Suzies and juleps cost $7.
And if you really want to come out a winner, shell out $35 for the Triple Crown buffet, featuring entrees, carving stations, appetizers, desserts, and snacks (for reservations call 725-0770).
Gates open at both tracks at 10:45 a.m. Racing starts in New York at 11:45 a.m. and kicks off here in Baltimore at 12:45 p.m.
