The future of this year's Baltimore Pride is in doubt after the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central Maryland failed to pay off debts from last year's festival.
GLCCB is seeking to raise $15,000 on an online fundraising page, which says they are still on the hook for "$12,146.27 in outstanding police fees." They are also seeking $2,200 for 2016 permit fees. As of this writing, the campaign has raised a little over $6,000.
"Without these funds, we will be unable to move forward with Pride 2016," the page says. "Let's clear up this debt together to make Pride 2016 happen for our community!"
The Washington Blade was first to report the story, and that paper also learned the city is suing the GLCCB for $11,829.42. According to the Blade, minutes from the GLCCB's March 14 meeting indicate the amount covers festival debts from 2011-2015. The lawsuit is scheduled to be heard May 17.
Pride is tentatively scheduled for July 23-24.
