President Obama makes a stop at Charmington's, takes a staff selfie

City Paper

While in town to meet with Democratic senators at the Hilton, President Barack Obama made an afternoon stop at Charmington's to have lunch with Senator Barbara Mikulski and three Maryland women and, according to The Sun's Ian Duncan, discuss giving workers more sick time. On the subject of sick time, it just so happened I was home with a head cold. When news started spreading that the president was a block from my house, I hopped out of bed to see if it was true. Below are some of my tweets from the afternoon.

Still waiting. Crowd is several rows deep in some places. Several people looking on from Miller's Court windows. pic.twitter.com/mIOwO0F5qK

Now the media is being shown in. S'up @iduncan.

Maybe 10 minutes later, the media left, and soon after came a group of Secret Service agents and President Obama. The president walked to end of the line and started shaking hands with everyone.

Motorcade just left. There were lots of shrieks and elated as he walked the line. Very cool experience.

That should read "elated screams." Whoops.

I was a row back taking pics. He made a point to shake my hand. "Good to meet you, Mr. President," I said. Surreal. My knees shook.

After everything died down a little, I went inside.
