A man shot his former girlfriend in Owings Mills this morning and then traveled to New York to kill police officers, posting on his since-removed Instagram page that he was about to “put wings on pigs” and that it might be his last post. UPDATE: Baltimore County police have released the local victim's name as Shaneka Nicole Thompson, 29, of the 10000 block of Mill Run Circle.
Ismaaiyl A. Brinsley, 28, reportedly shot two on-duty officers, Wenjin Liu and Rafael Ramos, sitting in a marked police car in Brooklyn. Both officers died, and Brinsley ran into a subway where he shot himself in the head and died.
Although the Baltimore Sun story on the shootings has not yet been updated to mention it, reporter Justin Fenton tweets that "Baltimore County police faxed a warning flier to NYPD abt the shooter, because of his ties to Brooklyn area. Came in same time as shooting." UPDATE: County police have released the flier, above, which warns that Brinsley had posted on Instagram "that he will shoot a police officer today." Also, the New York Times reported that Brinsley seems to have had a history of mental illness.
Social media lit up with re-posts from what was said to be Brinley’s instagram account, where he posed for selfies and published gun pics under the name dontrunup.
Georgia deputies arrested him for tresspassing in 2007. His state mugshot is here. Baltimore County Police were not confirming the information as of Saturday night, and the name of the woman Brinsley supposedly shot had not been released. She reportedly was expected to survive. Brinsley mentioned Eric Garner and Michael Brown in his posts, leading observers to conclude he was on a revenge mission. People invloved in the movement against police violence decried the connection.
