Local rapper Tate Kobang's national profile continues to rise, with NPR writer Timmhotep Aku calling 'Bank Rolls (Remix)' one of the best songs of the year and The Fader writing up his latest music video, for 'Wave Hi,' and dropping in a line saying 'Bank Rolls' is "one of the year's best rap songs.
On Tuesday, the rapper appeared on Sirius XM show Sway's Universe—hosted by MTV personality Sway Calloway—for an interview, which included a "Five Fingers of Death" freestyle challenge. Among the offerings were local favorites such as 'Jiggle It' by Young Leek and a slowed-down version of 'Tear Up the Club' by DJ Class. Kobang handled himself ably, as you can see in the video below:
There's a full interview, in which Kobang talks about growing up in Baltimore, here:
And for good measure, here's an embed of the video for 'Wave Hi,' featuring a tuxedo-wearing Kobang getting ready for a picturesque Federal Hill wedding and then leaving his bride-to-be behind to hang out with his buddy and two other women in Towson. That's kinda messed up, dude.
Kobang's first release on the label 300 Entertainment is due out next year.Copyright © 2019, Baltimore City Paper
