Nina Pop, the record label founded by producer—and soon-to-be L.A. resident :-(—Schwarz, has been dropping mixes by DJs on Soundcloud, and the most recent one, from club producer Rip Knoxx, caught our attention. The 20-plus minute mix "Sweet and Sour McShakeoff," as it's called, works its way from a barrage of gun clicks and bubbling bass, by DJ Millz, to a pulsing sample of Sisqo's 'Thong Song,' DJ Mike Gip. In between, Knoxx blends a lot of his own production work.
Here's what Schwarz wrote about the mix:
"Rip Knoxx is a young but also veteran Baltimore Club Producer and DJ who has been a tremendous influence on the youngest wave of the Baltimore Club scene. His dark, ominous, dramatic, and high energy tracks dominate in soundtracking the small but devote competitive Baltimore Club Dance scene. As a producer, Rip often takes inspiration from, and samples darker nu-metal and gothic rock favorites like Evanescense and System of A Down and morphs them sometimes recognizably- sometimes not, into symphonic harmonic minor scale club masterpieces. For his "Sweet and Sour McShakeoff Mix" for Nina Pop, the third in the new "Nina Mix" series, he blends his own intense material with like-minded local Baltimore "Shakeoff" producers like his incredibly talented cousin Matic808 among others."
Knoxx is performing at The Crown tonight as part of Turn Up For Justice, a benefit for Bmore United For Change. Stream the mix here:
