Enoch Pratt Free Library to host its first comic con

Cities across the country host conventions (or cons) for fans of comics, animation, fantasy, and other bits of pop culture, and now one is coming to the hallowed halls of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. The Southeast Anchor branch is hosting the system's first-ever comic con, featuring panel discussions, workshops, games, and a costume contest.

Among the highlights are a panel on breaking into the industry, with artists John Sazaklis, Dan Parent, and Jerry Gaylord, and a discussion on women and comics featuring artists Penelope Gaylord and Stephanie "Alaska" Kellum.

The con takes place June 20 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 3601 Eastern Ave., and it's pretty cool that an institution like the library is recognizing comics as literature worth reading and celebrating.
