If Sisqo was ever on the A-list, it was back in the 'Thong Song' days. And if Dru Hill's last reunion album, 2010's "InDRUpendence Day," couldn't restore him to the R&B mainstream, it seems unlikely that his new solo music will. Nonetheless, Baltimore's world-famous silver-haired soul singer just dropped 'A-List,' the lead single from his "The Last Dragon" album due out in November. The song features Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame, who's also trying to stay in the spotlight after his fame peaked a couple years back, and it's closer to Waka's trap-beat club-banger comfort zone than Sisqo's usual music:
Sisqo, who was last heard on Baltimore rapper Test's single 'See It To Believe It' with Future, seems determined to break into the swagged-out Southern rap sound with his latest music. The beat for 'A-List' is by One Up Entertainment, the Baltimore-based production team who was responsible for most of Bossman's local hits. Sisqo may not seem like a great fit on paper for this kind of aggressive track, but his unique vocal tone actually does sound surprisingly good here. So there's hope that "The Last Dragon" will be a quality project, although we still hope it brings some of that Dru Hill '90s quiet storm flavor as well. The 'A-List' video is due out soon.
