Midtown BBQ and Brew (15 E. Centre St., 835-2472, midtownbbqandbrew.com) has shut down, according to a Facebook post on its page Monday. A new restaurant, Flavor, will soon take over the space, offering locally sourced small plates and craft cocktails.
Vanna Belton says the restaurant, which she is opening with her wife, Julia, will be "a classy take on bar food," with small plate options like truffle fries and kobe beef sliders in place of standard pub grub.
As a write-up on the Mount Vernon Belvedere Association notes, Julia previously worked at Eleven Madison Park in New York, recently named a top-five restaurant in the world—it was the highest placing U.S. restaurant.
Julia says the menu will have creative takes on American cuisine, and that the name of the eatery reflects the "different influences—we're a melting pot."
The couple hopes to locally source as many ingredients as possible, and they've already begun connecting with local farms for fruits and meats.
The upstairs lounge space will serve as a lesbian social lounge on Fridays and Saturdays and be rented out for events on other nights.
They said they're hoping Flavor will be open for business by the end of September.
