Chef Bryan Voltaggio, who was the runner-up on season six of "Top Chef" and was a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef award in the mid-Atlantic in 2012, is opening his newest Baltimore restaurant ahead of schedule. Family Meal (621 E. Pratt St.,  601-3242, voltfamilymeal.com) was going to open in mid-January 2015, but has started its soft opening already and pushed its official opening date up to Friday, Jan. 2 for its lunch and dinner menus. It will begin serving breakfast on Monday, Jan. 5.
The restaurant, which is 6,000 square feet with additional outdoor dining space, offers "re-invented classic American diner fare," according to a press release. This is the second location for Family Meal—the first opened in Frederick, Maryland in 2012, and there are two more locations scheduled to open in Ashburn, Virginia and Richmond in 2015.
