June 9-11: Homebrew Con

With a store like Nepenthe and groups like BaltiBrew and Lady Brew Baltimore (the former featuring CP contributor Ryan Detter, the latter featuring CP contributor Martine Richards), now is as good a time as any to make your own nectar of the gods in your domicile. It can sometimes be messy and as Tom Petty once said, the waiting is the hardest part, but in the end you get a helluva lot of beer and the satisfaction of knowing you brewed it yourself. Even if you're a seasoned homebrewer, there's always more to learn, and much of that knowledge can be gained at this convention, with seminars on souring, building your own kegerator, starting your own homebrewing group, and much, much more. Most importantly, there will be lots and lots of beer to drink, and drinking beer is really what we're all after here. The Baltimore Convention Center, 1 W. Pratt St., 1 (888) 822-6273, homebrewcon.org, $240 for the full conference, various packages available. (Brandon Weigel)
