June 4: BmoreArt Journal of Art + Ideas Issue 2 Launch

BmoreArt's first print publication, which came out last fall, took a broad but smart view of the arts in the context of Baltimore. Stories about local artist-run spaces and non-artist arts administrators give us a sense of what it takes—ambition, sweat, connections, and money—to get things off the ground in this city. Other stories—like Will Holman’s essay that considers both a local deconstruction (a more sustainable practice than demolition) company and artist Gordon Matta-Clark’s prognostic, deconstructive art—incorporate the arts to illustrate Baltimore’s issues of segregation, redlining, and unemployment. The next issue focuses on money and art from multiple angles and hopefully with similar nuance. Celebrate with contributors, photographers (disclosure: CP photo editor Joe Giordano has some work in this issue), artists, and more. 7-10 p.m., Area 405, 405 E. Oliver St., bmoreart.com, $15-$50.
