July 15-17: Artscape

Last year's Artscape theme was water, inspiring all sorts of beachy and conservation-esque installations, such as a huge recycling "stream" down Charles Street, the Baltimore Rock Opera Society's transformation of a parking lot into BROcean City, a "Lazy River" area with a fountain, manatee balloons, and water raft sculptures, along with performance art, storytelling, and more. (Also, misting stations. Bless.) This year's theme launches us out of the water and into outer space, so we're yearning for aliens, zero gravity situations, and a panel discussion on the likelihood of an errant meteor destroying this planet. Also, Tang. Some of this, we hope, along with the usual Artscape attractions: the Artscape Gallery Network, artist-vendors, the Artist-Run Art Fair, music, theater, and more. Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m, Sunday 11 a.m.-8 p.m., W. Mt. Royal Ave., Charles and Cathedral streets, artscape.org, free. (Rebekah Kirkman)
