Gift Guide 2016: Mt. Washington

With Falls Road, I-83, and the Light Rail all nearby, Mt. Washington is easy to get to, but some of its shopping options are cut off from each other, so taking a car might be best. Working from south to north, be sure to stop by vintage shop Wishbone Reserve (5730 Falls Road, [443] 961-3376, wishbonereserve.com), a great spot for mid-mod finds (that is, disclosure, co-owned by a friend of mine). Just up the street is Joe’s Bike Shop (5813 Falls Road, [410] 323-2788, joesbikeshop.com), and hey, with the new Maryland Avenue bike, there’s no shortage of inspiration and motivation to buy stuff in there. Over in the village proper, there are two solid clothing options: Something Else (1611 Sulgrave Ave., [410] 542-0444, facebook.com/SomethingElseMtWashington) for funkier duds and La Chic Boutique (1501 Sulgrave Ave., [443] 869-2247, lachicboutiquemd.com) for discounted designer labels. Nickel Taphouse (1604 Kelly Ave., [443] 869-6240, nickeltaphouse.com), Mt. Washington Tavern (5700 Newbury St., [410] 367-6903, mtwashingtontavern.com), and Ethel’s Creole Kitchen (1615 Sulgrave Ave., [410] 664-2971, ethelscreolekitchen.com) are all great stops for food and drink within walking distance. Not far from the Light Rail stop is the Baltimore Clayworks gift shop (5707 Smith Ave., [410] 578-1919, baltimoreclayworks.org), where you can pick up hand-crafted ceramic mugs and works of art. Over at the mill complex off Falls Road is a great local store to buy a treat for your furry friend: Dogma (1340 - G Smith Ave., [443] 708-4420, dogmaforpets.com). Keep heading north toward the county until you hit one of Baltimore’s finest independent bookstores, the Ivy Bookshop (6080 Falls Road, [410] 377-2966, the ivybookshop.com), where you’re sure to find something for just about everyone on your list.
