Contact Sheet: The Tulsa Voice at Standing Rock

At the beginning of the the month, The Tulsa Voice's assistant editor Liz Blood and photographer Joseph Rushmore drove from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Cannonball, North Dakota where Native Americans are protesting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline on the Standing Rock Reservation. "Going to Standing Rock was a wildly different experience than I was expecting. Among the burned out vehicles and remnants of clashes with the police I saw a community of prayer, ceremony, peace and a people of dedication and clarity of intent,” Rushmore said. “I saw and tried to capture in photographs a beauty and spirit that was deeply affecting.” Read about their dispatch from Standing Rock here
