The city surpassed the homicide count from last year this week, with 21 days to go until the new year. This marks the second year in a row that Baltimore's homicide count increased year-over-year. Only two murders were recorded last week.
Wednesday, Dec. 4
11:29 p.m. James Seals, a 48 year-old African-American man, was on the 2800 block of Parkwood Avenue in the Woodbrook neighborhood about five blocks from his residence on the 2200 block of Whittier Avenue when another African-American man walked up to him. The two men spoke for a short time and then the other man shot Seals several times and ran away. Police and medics found Seals there. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 5
6:58 p.m. Rodney Smith, a 26-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times in the back while standing on the 3300 block of Virginia Avenue. Northwest District police and medics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:21 p.m. Smith's last known address was on the 3300 block of Woodland Avenue, a block from where he was shot.
