Jacob Panic, Slow Jerks, Lost Tribe, and more

WEDNESDAY: Banjo-playing local singer-songwriter Jacob Panic performs at Joe Squared. The Windup Space features an eclectic bill including LAZERBITCH, AbRock, Adam Selene, and Jonny October. The Fish Head Cantina holds an acoustic open mic.

THURSDAY: Metro Gallery holds an U+Nfest pre-party with Slow Jerks, Second Best Western (featuring members of Pure Junk), and Misfits cover band Asstro Zombies. The current incarnation of San Francisco country-rock legends New Riders of the Purple Sage play Rams Head Live with Cris Jacobs. The Ottobar's Physical Education party features the YouTube rap jokesters from Turquoise Jeep Records. Pianist Aaron Parks celebrates the release of his new album, Arborescence, at An die Musik. The Creative Alliance at the Patterson hosts a "Party Gras" dance party with zydeco band Mo Mojo. Joe Squared hosts the Screams and Whispers singer-songwriter showcase. Herman's Hermits with Peter Noone perform at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick.

FRIDAY: Harford County country band Denim n Lace plays the Fish Head Cantina. At Rams Head Live, Abba the Concert pays tribute to the Swedish pop superpower, while Splintered Sunlight plays the music of the Grateful Dead at the 8x10. DJ Fleg and DJ Exclaime throw down a connoisseur's selection of beats at the Windup Space's Four Hours of Funk monthly party. Nine Inch Nails headline the Verizon Center in Washington. SATURDAY: U+N Fest 2 has an afternoon show at the Windup Space with punk bands Lost Tribe, In School, and War on Women, and an evening show at the Ottobar with the Gories and Weekend. Jazz songstress Diana Krall headlines the Lyric Opera House. The Nighthawks (you know, the band in the second season of The Wire) play the Padonia Park Club in Cockeysville. U.K. superstar Emeli Sande crosses the pond to win some stateside fans at the Meyerhoff. Blues singer John Németh performs at the Rosedale American Legion Hall. An die Musik's Joe Byrd Jazz Series kicks off with the Lenny Marcus Trio interpreting Beethoven. Phutureprimitive brings some moody beats to the 8x10 with Unlimited Gravity. The Creative Alliance at the Patterson presents Malian singer/guitarist Vieux Farka Toure, son of Ali Farka Toure. German producer Boys Noize spins at Baltimore Soundstage. Math-metal band the Chariot stops by the Knights of Columbus in Annapolis on their farewell tour, with To the Wind opening. Don't miss: Reunited Washington indie-rock royalty the Dismemberment Plan plays the first of two nights at the 9:30 Club, with fellow D.C. band Deleted Scenes opening.

SUNDAY: Yip Deceiver, featuring members of Of Montreal, plays the Golden West with Wild Moccasins and Real 2 Real. Nu-metal band Otep plays the House of Rock with New Years Day. Exile Parade opens for Australia's the Novacaines at the Metro Gallery, while Mayday Parade marches into Baltimore Soundstage.

MONDAY: Coheed & Cambria and Balance & Composure rock with ampersands at Rams Head Live. Japanese punk band Ultra Bide plays the Metro Gallery. P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. (featuring members of Resist and Poison Idea) headlines the Sidebar.

TUESDAY: Washington funk-rockers Thaylobleu plays the Sidebar with Blue Moon Harem and New Canada. Loadbang headlines the latest installment of the Evolution Contemporary Music Series at An die Musik. Toro Y Moi and Classixx raid retro grooves for hipsters at the Ottobar. Don't miss: Baltimore-based R&B star Mario performs at The Fillmore in Silver Spring in support of the current radio hits "Somebody Else" and "Fatal Distraction."

WEDNESDAY: Houston psych-rockers the Tontons play the Metro Gallery. American Idol's 2008 winner, David Cook, headlines Rams Head Live. Big Something continues its residency at the 8x10 every Wednesday in October, with Deaf Scene opening. Don't miss: The Baltimore Composers Forum brings Germany's Trio Mus to An die Musik.

IN THE WINGS: Father-and-son hammer-dulcimer luminaries Ken and Brad Kolodner, fresh off a performance at the Baltimore Folk Fest, will return to town to play An die Musik on Nov. 29.
