There were five more homicides during the week amid a spate of shootings, including a double homicide in which a 15-year-old boy was wounded; an adult who was with him was killed.

1:45 a.m. David Hursey, a 26-year-old African-American man, was on the 2600 block of East Monument Street when someone shot him in the head. A 15-year-old boy was shot at the same time and place, and is expected to survive. Hursey, who resided on the 1500 block of East Cold Spring Lane, died a little after 6 p.m. on Sept. 12.
Saturday, Sept. 14
12:57 a.m. Anthony Pryor, a 19-year-old African-American man, was shot in the head on the 3700 block of Bonview Avenue. He died there. Police arrested Kauron Malik Gross, a 20-year-old African-American man, and charged him with murder. Both men lived on the block, police say. It was the second murder in the Claremont-Freedom neighborhood this month, the previous one being Nathaniel McCoy, who was found on Sept. 6 in an SUV (see below).
Sunday, Sept. 15
11:53 p.m. Neal Hunt, a 33-year-old African-American man who resided on the 1000 block of West Baltimore Street, was shot to death on the 500 block of North Bradford Street in the McElderry Park neighborhood. That is the fourth murder in that neighborhood this year.
There were three other murders added to the tally in recent weeks, two of which were old crimes in which the victims recently died. Nathaniel McCoy, a 31-year-old African-American man, was shot to death on the 3900 block of Chesterfield Avenue while sitting inside an SUV on the evening of Sept. 6. He lived on the 1600 block of East 25th Street, police say. That's four blocks from where Gregory Commissiong, a 43-year-old African-American man, was shot on Sept. 25, 2009. Commissiong died on July 6, 2013 as a result of his injuries. That was a couple of weeks after Robert Sutton Jr., a 56-year-old African-American man, died from complications of an assault he suffered in 1986. According to The Sun's account, Sutton was paralyzed after being pushed down a flight of stairs. He died on June 22, and his death was subsequently ruled a homicide and added to the 2013 tally.
