Murders this Week: 10; Murders this Year: 110

Blood stained summer's first weekend as at least 19 people were shot and at least eight were murdered. There were two shootings with multiple victims-one on the east side and one on the west.

Monday, June 17

Shortly before 6 p.m., two men were shot behind the 1300 block of North Luzerne Avenue in the Berea neighborhood. An African-American man in jeans and a white T-shirt flagged down Eastern District police officers on the 1700 block. He had been shot in the right arm, and he told police his cousin had been hit too but he did not know where he went. Six hours later, at 23 minutes before midnight, Eastern District police found a man who had been shot in the chest on the 2600 block of Grogan Avenue, 100 feet or so from the earlier shooting. Kwane Davis, 36, died at the hospital about 15 minutes after midnight.

Thursday, June 20

7:01 p.m. Darrell Banks, a 28-year-old African-American man, was at the Gilmor Homes on the 1600 block of Mountmor Court when someone shot him. Medics got him to Shock Trauma, where he was pronounced dead at 7:35 p.m.

Friday, June 21

1:11 p.m. Andre Witherspoon, a 27-year-old African-American man, was shot at the 900 block of Ducatel Street in Reservoir Hill.

Saturday, June 22

1:27 a.m. Five people were shot as they sat on a stoop on the 700 block of North Kenwood Avenue in the Madison-Eastend neighborhood. Donyae Jones, an 18-year-old African-American woman, was hit in the chest and died less than an hour later. Police were searching for a motive.

11:30 a.m. A police officer on patrol in the Northwest District heard shots on the 5200 block of Cuthbert Avenue. He found Omar Shorter, a 32-year-old African-American man, who was shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

9:17 p.m. Danquel Darden, a 37-year-old African-American man from the 2000 block of East Baltimore Street, was on the 500 block of East 26th Street in the Harwood neighborhood when someone shot him in the face. Northern District police responding to the shooting found him. He died at the hospital shortly afterward.

11:56 p.m. Gervontae Burgess, a 20-year-old African-American man, and Joyce Allston, a 49-year-old African-American woman, were in a car on the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue when they were shot. Central District police came and made sure they were taken to hospitals, where both victims died soon after.

Sunday, June 23

4:42 a.m. An African-American man who police have not yet identified publicly was shot in the head on the 5200 block of St. Charles Avenue in the Arlington neighborhood, where Northwest District police found him dead on the street. He was pronounced dead at 4:55 a.m.

8:29 p.m. Maurice Taylor, a 37-year-old African-American man, was shot multiple times on the 900 block of Bennett Place. Western District police found him on the street and an ambulance got him to Shock Trauma, where he was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.
