WEDNESDAY: Chicago headlines the Meyerhoff's benefit for Junior Achievement of Central Maryland. Country hitmaker Lee Brice plays the Maryland Live! Casino in Hanover. Jefferson, Md. metal band Kalevra plays the Sidebar with Consumed with Hatred and Postcards. Don't miss: Dutch saxophonist Tineke Postma, a collaborator to Esperanza Spalding and Cassandra Wilson, among others, performs at An die Musik.

THURSDAY: The Metro Gallery holds an Artscape Soundoff competition to determine who will perform at the festival this summer. The Hype party at the Paradox celebrates its one-year anniversary with AFK and Shortee. Austin's Pure X (formerly Pure Ecstasy) headlines the Ottobar. PB Jamz perform a cappella covers at Joe Squared. Olympia, Wash. trio Broken Water plays the Golden West with awesome locals Wildhoney.

FRIDAY: Preakness weekend begins with the Goo Goo Dolls headlining the Black-Eyed Susan Day concert at Pimlico. The Windup Space-based 4 Hours of Funk welcomes special guest DJ Kon of BBE Records. FT Blindman performs roots rock at Joe Squared. Don't kill vibraphonist Warren Wolf's vibe at An die Musik. Monozine presents Alkaline Trio and Bayside at Rams Head Live. The Reticents return, after a couple years of inactivity, at the Sidebar with Pure Junk, Advlts, and Hard Dads. Ohio indie-pop outfit Bad Veins play the Golden West. Frat-rap sensation Jake Miller headlines Baltimore Soundstage. Experimental pianist Macro Benevento performs at the 8x10. Don't miss: The Creative Alliance at the Patterson's Gypsy Monsoon Ball features music from Balti Mare and Black Masala.

SATURDAY: Peals hold a release party for their new album on Thrill Jockey at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Adventure heads up a bill at Current Space, with Chiffon and Breeeeze. The Creative Alliance at the Patterson hosts the Night of 1,000 Dylans, with Howard Markman, Red Sammy, and more paying tribute to Bobby Zimmerman. The Preakness InfieldFest at Pimlico Race Course features musical performances from Pitbull and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Mum's hosts a night of snappy pop/rock from the Honest Mistakes and Ghost Hotel. The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival brings Eric Burdon to Sandy Point State Park. Spacehog lures you into the Metro Gallery with the one song people like and then hits you with goddamn "Mungo City." The Sidebar's Spring Meltdown 3 features Gloominous Doom, Sloth Herder, Ralph, Acrid, and more. Violinist Jon Rose and friends perform at the Red Room. Schwarz spins at the Paradox Pajama Party and Ball. Country sibling act the Band Perry tours its excellent new album Pioneer at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Local psych-rock vets Arbouretum plays the Ottobar with Onespot Fringehead and Divining Rod. SUNDAY: ZZ Top has longer, cooler beards and a longer, cooler career than just about any band in the world at Pier Six Pavilion. New Jersey punks Black Wine plays the Charm City Art Space. Ramin Karimloo, actor/singer and star of many stage musicals on London's West End, performs at Baltimore Soundstage. Grace Potter sideman-gone-solo Scott Tournet headlines the 8x10. Retox, the new Epitaph band featuring members of the Locust, plays the Golden West with locals War on Women, who just returned from a European tour. The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival continues in Annapolis with Bonnie Raitt and Mavis Staples. Don't miss: Legendary rapper Rakim performs at Paparazzi (formerly Sonar).

MONDAY: Up-and-coming alt-rockers Beware of Darkness headlines Baltimore Soundstage. Noise in the Basement at the Ottobar features local bands Antique Asylum, Psykotic Melody, Encaptive, and Ghosts of Idols.

TUESDAY: Jazz institution Chick Corea performs at the Johns Hopkins Club. The Out of Your Head collective improvises at the Windup Space. Sampling pioneer Thomas Dimuzio visits the Red Room. Prolific Massachusetts singer-songwriter Melissa Ferrick performs at the 8x10. Cincinnati garage-rockers Mad Anthony plays the Sidebar with Polaroid Rage.

WEDNESDAY: Adryelle plays dream pop at Joe Squared.
