Iggies

We learned in June from erstwhile City Paper restaurant reviewer Richard Gorelick's Baltimore Diner blog on baltimoresun.com that Iggies Pizza was packing up its pies and moving to the Riderwood Station shopping center in Towson. Leaving. Not "expanding" or "opening a new restaurant," but leaving Mount Vernon and the city of Baltimore, period. We love Iggies, even though they don't take reservations, even though it's self-service. We love, love, love their pizza, especially the "Funghi" pie with mushrooms, leeks, mozzarella, and goat cheese-drool-and their beautiful, simple salads, and we were crushed like a can of tomatoes to think about life in the city of Baltimore without Iggies, and we got a little angry at Iggies, but in July, when we saw this idiosyncratically abbreviated message on the @iggiesbaltimore Twitter, "Jst in case u hvn't heard, iggies is NOT leaving Mt Vernon," we immediately forgot all the mean things we were going to say about Iggies. The Prodigal Pizza is back, and it never left, that's all we need to know.
