Monday, July 23

10:28 P.M. Brandon Spruill, a 23-year-old African-American man, and some friends were in the 1600 block of McKean Avenue in Sandtown-Winchester when two males came up to rob them. During the robbery, Spruill was shot in the head and died before he could be taken to a hospital. His friends were not shot.

Thursday, July 26

3:33 A.M. Franklin Morris Jr., a 34-year-old African-American man, was discovered shot in the living room of his home in the 1600 block of North Smallwood Street. Someone had come into the house and shot Morris numerous times in what police believe may have been a robbery. Morris died at 4:09 A.M. at a local hospital. Morris was killed about four blocks from where Spruill was murdered.

9:53 P.M. Hamin Bridges, a 34-year-old African-American man, parked his van in the 1000 block of Evesham Road near Chinquapin Park. He was approached by a group of men. Hamin struggled with the men and then tried to run away. He was shot repeatedly as he fled. The men then stole his van, a 2004 Honda Odyssey minivan. Bridges died at a local hospital at 10:26 P.M.

Friday, July 27

6:08 P.M. A family member went to the home of Herman Regis, a 67-year-old African-American in the 5900 block of Eurith Avenue near the northeastern city line. Regis did not come to the door. The family member then saw someone lying just inside the front door. She called out to the person, but got no response, so she called 911. The fire department responded and entered the house finding Regis, who had not been seen since the previous weekend, in a state of decomposition. His death has been ruled a homicide but, as of press time, police were not releasing the cause of death.

11:02 P.M. Later that night, Derian Hampton, a 21-year-old African-American man, was shot several times in the 1200 block of North Caroline Street. He was pronounced dead on scene eight minutes later. This is the seventh murder in Oliver. The six-block by five-block neighborhood is currently the most murderous in the city.

Saturday, July 28

2:25 A.M. Jermaine Blue, a 30-year-old African-American man, was located in front of a residence in the 1400 block of Poplar Grove Street near Rosemont Elementary Middle School. He had been shot repeatedly and died before he could be taken to a hospital.

Updates: Dwayne Moore, a 19-year-old African-American male, was arrested on June 14 for the murder of Kevin Lofland, an 18-year-old African-American man. Lofland and a 17-year-old African-American male were shot on Nov. 12, 2011 in the 2200 block of Aiken Street. Lofland died and the 17-year-old survived.
