GERHARD RICHTER PAINTING Corinna Belz’s documentary shadows artist Gerhard Richter as he goes about creating his work. At the Charles Theatre April 28 at 11:30 a.m. and April 30 at 7 p.m.

ON THE BOWERY Lionel Rogosin’s recently revived 1957 docudrama combines actors delivering lines and real demimonde denizens in its story of a man who comes to New York to seek his fortune and winds up trying to escape the titular skid row. At the Charles Theatre April 26 at 9 p.m.

PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS The creators of Wallace and Gromit return with a seafaring stop-motion adventure featuring the voices of Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Piven, Brendan Gleeson, and . . . Al Roker. Opens April 27.

THE RAVEN V for Vendetta director James McTeigue gives us literary screen heartthrob John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in a speculative action/thriller sort of thing set in Baltimore. Wonder how it ends? Opens April 27.

SAFE Another Jason Statham action vehicle, this one directed by Boaz Yakin (Fresh, Remember the Titans). Opens April 27.
