Grilled Cheese and Co. is one of those places that uses the trademark symbol without irony. (See Crabby Melt™ and Crabby Dip™.) But this newish Baltimore City location of this relatively new local franchise is, nevertheless, doing some things right. There are more than 10 kinds of grilled cheese sandwiches plus soups and salads, and slow service aside, we were pleased with our orders. The Original ($4.99), the classic American cheese on buttery white bread, was golden brown and delish. And the Veggie Delight ($6.99)—with melted Havarti cheese and a robust assortment of roasted red and green bell peppers, onion, tomato, and other vegetables—was that perfect combo of crispy and oozy, set off by a tangy olive tapenade. The cream of broccoli and cheddar soup ($2.99 for a cup) was pretty standard, despite the supposed addition of grilled chicken—either we were stiffed or the meat was imperceptible. But the cream of tomato basil soup ($2.99) was chunky, with croutons and actual tomatoes, perfect for scooping onto the sandwich.
