Disney Cruise Line has lined up its Halloween and Christmas-themed sailings for 2015. All four ships in the line will feature a series of cruises filled with thematic overlays either for Halloween on the High Seas or Very Merrytime Cruises. In all there will be 70 sailings from September-December from four different ports.

“You see more and more people that want to celebrate the holiday whether it’s Christmas or it’s Halloween, but more for the month,” said Jennifer Tinn, manager of marketing strategy at Disney Cruise Line. “It’s become like a seasonal thing to get your family into it. It really echoes the change of season.”

For Halloween on the High Seas, each ship gets a spooky makeover with its own Pumpkin Tree in the atrium along with costume parties, trick-or-treating, scary movies and other events for both children and adults. In 2014, the line put on Tim Burton’s “A Nightmare Before Christmas – Sing and Scream,” an interactive movie experience with a meet-and-greet with the film’s characters Jack Skellington and Sally.

Very Merrytime Cruises feature a massive Christmas tree in the atrium with a tree-lighting party, Charles Dickens’-inspired carolers, story time with Mrs. Claus and appearances of the big guy himself.

Both themed cruises also feature food and drink offerings such as spider cakes and spooky juice for Halloween and even gingerbread-house making for the holidays. Most of the scheduled cruises also make stops at Disney’s Castaway Cay, which also features thematic touches.

Come fall, Disney Dream and Fantasy will continue to sail out of Port Canaveral while Disney Magic will sail out of PortMiami. Disney Wonder, which will have spent the summer in Alaska and Hawaii will do all of its Halloween sailings from San Diego before repositioning to Galveston, from where its Christmas sailings will depart.

Halloween sailings are set for Dream from Sept. 7-Oct. 30, Fantasy from Sept. 5-Oct. 31, Magic from Oct. 4-28 and Wonder from Oct. 1-23.

Merrytime sailings will be on the Dream from Nov. 9-Dec. 24, Fantasy from Nov. 14-Dec. 19, Magic from Nov. 11-Dec. 23 and Wonder from Nov. 6-Dec. 24.

Disney Dream will be in dry dock from Oct. 4-24, so is only slated for 10 3- and 4-night sailings for Halloween. When it emerges though, it will have new Star Wars and Disney Infinity-themed play areas and other upgrades like the addition of the Muppets Midship Detective Agency.

Also new to the cruise line this fall will be the introduction of “Tangled: The Musical” starting Nov. 11.

Tinn said the line has increased the presence on the ships as well as increased the number of sailings. There are 32 Halloween sailings as early as Sept. 5 and 38 Very Merrytime sailings as early as Nov. 6 across the four ships.

“They’ve really become events for us,” Tinn said. “We’re seeing that fall season which sometimes for the cruise industry has lower demand because kids go back to school. It’s helped us a lot.”
