Wandering Eye: Frankness in the drug trade, structuring seizures, and Major League Soccer's salaries
In a case of refreshing candor, Gerald Henderson, a veteran drug dealer in District Heights, Maryland, admitted everything when law enforcers busted him, according to federal court documents filed last week, and provided a glimpse of a typical ex-offender's personal finances. Explaining that he'd been "selling drugs for about sixteen or seventeen years" and "had previously been convicted of multiple drug offenses and spent time in prison," Henderson told the cops that, after serving his time, he got a job at the "Price Rite Grocery Store," which he still had at the time of current arrest for pot possession, but was primarily living off the "street money" he made selling drugs. Henderson didn't even know how much he made per hour at Price Rite, but the officers looked up his wages: $9,687 for all of 2013. Add that to the $12,342 in cash the police seized from him during his arrest, and Henderson's drug-dealing lifestyle is revealed to be, well, a meager, hard-scrabble, risky enterprise, even for someone as drug-war-seasoned as he is.
