Happening Saturday: Orioles FanFest, a new project from Height Keech, and more
-Orioles FanFest: We enjoy ourselves some FanFest, always have. We've enjoyed it ever since we went for the first time in the '90s, and it was still at the warehouse, instead of the Convention Center, and we got the autographs of Mike Mussina and Rafael Palmeiro. But oh man, this year's edition might play out like "The Jerry Springer Show" or something. Lots of bad vibes. In case you missed it: Dan Duquette, aka the guy in charge of acquiring players, reportedly wanted out of Baltimore so he can become the president of the A.L. East rival Toronto Blue Jays. But Orioles owner Peter Angelos wouldn't let him go, you see. All the while, Duquette did a whole lotta nothing on the free-agent-signing and player-trading fronts. Conspiracy! Well, we're not sure about a full-blown tank job, but the whole thing seems kind of fishy, right? So in addition to the autograph signings, photo opportunities, games, food, and fun that typically come with FanFest, there are forums where fans can ask questions of players and coaches, and, per usual, there is going to be one with Duquette and manager Buck Showalter. And someone is almost certainly going to ask Duquette why he wanted to leave for Toronto! Or why he's not doing anything! Or what's the deal with Angelos being a tightwad anyway! People are mad. And it's going to be awkward. So, so awkward. 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Baltimore Convention Center, 1 W. Pratt St., (888) 848-2473, orioles.com, $12, children 14 and younger and adults 55 and older $6. Daniella, the new Maryland governor’s 2-year-old granddaughter, just wouldn’t quit. There she was, up on the stage in her mom’s arms, right next to Larry Hogan at his inaugural gala at the Baltimore Convention Center, way past bedtime on...

    High Stakes

    High Stakes
It’s the highest-stakes lottery poor people play. Winners can get their rent paid for life. Losers may end up sleeping on the street. The last chance to play was in 2003. Now the time has come again. For the first time in more than a decade,...

    Places To Stay

    Places To Stay
We don’t always get the chance to stay in hotels in our own city. But whether it’s the result of burst pipes  or collapsed streets, quite a few Baltimoreans got to experience our city’s hospitality first hand over the past year. And...
