MEAC, SWAC to compete in postseason bowl game

Football champions of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Southwestern Athletic Conference will compete in an annual postseason bowl game beginning next season. The inaugural MEAC-SWAC bowl game will be played Dec. 19 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, MEAC commissioner Dennis Thomas said. Future games will be held at the city’s new stadium that will be home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Called the Celebration Bowl, it will be televised at noon on ABC, according to a news release. The MEAC will forfeit its automatic berth in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, Thomas said, but retains the possibility of teams receiving an at-large berth. Morgan State, which last season captured a share of its first MEAC championship in 35 years, lost in the first round of the 2014 FCS playoffs.
