Despite a loss to Penn State in the semifinals of the Big Ten lacrosse tournament, the Northwestern women’s lacrosse team got at least one home game in the 26-team NCAA lacrosse tournament.

With the eight seed, Northwestern (12-6) drew Louisville (10-7) in the first game (3:30 p.m.) of a Friday doubleheader at Lakeside Field in Evanston. The Wildcats beat the Cardinals 12-10 March 29 in Evanston.

Notre Dame meets Ohio State in the second game of that doubleheader, with the winner playing the NU-Louisville winner Sunday in Evanston.

To make the Final Four for the 11th straight time, Northwestern will have to win three games instead of two as in the past. Only the top six teams received first-round byes.

The Wildcats also would likely have to beat top-seeded Maryland, the defending national champion, in a quarterfinal at Maryland. The Terps were upset by Ohio State in the Big Ten semis, ending their 27-game win streak.

North Carolina (2), Duke (3) and Syracuse (4) are the other top seeds in a bracket announced Sunday night.

Penn State, which beat Ohio State Sunday for the inaugural Big Ten tourney title, was not seeded.

Northwestern has won seven NCAA titles in the last 10 years.
