Contact Sheet: The House of Ushers

If the baseball players are sports royalty, then the stadium ushers are the castle guards. Stoic but friendly, the ushers take their jobs seriously and execute their work with military precision. They refuse to leave their posts but make sure every fan finds their seat and is relatively pleased. They joke and laugh, but refuse to talk to the press, as they’re ordered not to. This small army of bright orange holds the line between partying fans and the heroes on the field. They play along with my antics—getting their portraits taken—while keeping a close eye on the fans and their respective sections. While I was taking a photo of one of the ushers, a fan leaned over to me and quipped, "If it wasn’t for these guys, there would be chaos." (J.M. Giordano)
