Ruth Reichl, former editor of the iconic but discontinued Gourmet magazine, former food critic for the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times, and author of several acclaimed foodie memoirs (“Tender at the Bone” and “Comfort Me With Apples”), has written her first novel, about a food writer working at prestigious food magazine that abruptly closes. But no, it’s not another memoir.

The Baltimore Rock Opera Society presents six one-act, 25-minute rock operas, featuring the stories of a Space Age heroine, a tent-revival faith healer, and glam-rock puppet athletes during the first weekend, and during the second weekend, the limbo state of blues legend Robert Johnson, a shadow-played Western folk tale, and punk-rock tribute to Baltimore’s rodent mascot: in other words, the epic but little-told history of the United States.
